Ford Motor Co. says it is recalling about 1.2 million F-150 pickup trucks built between 2003 and 2006 to check their air-bag systems.
The car maker says it decided to recall the vehicles after receiving a number of reports of unwanted airbag deployments associated with chafing wires. If chafing occurs, the company says, the airbag warning lamp will illuminate for a long time before there is any risk of deployment, so the chance of surprise airbag inflation is fairly low.
