Kimi Raikkonen will drive the United States this year in the third division of NASCAR. The Finn seems to turn its back on Formula 1.
Kimi Raikkonen runs in the World Rally Championship last season. Late 2010, he was even further away from Formula 1 by refusing to negotiate firmly with Renault.
The Finn has scheduled a closed system, but in NASCAR. Raikkonen wants to discover the stock car racing United States, mainly contested on oval circuits. There's going to ride this year.
"I am this for a while,"confided the 2007 Formula 1 champion in Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat. "I know it's a very difficult championship. I love the American spirit of the race. It's good to be involved in this. It will be a big challenge and a great pleasure for me. "
Raikkonen will cross the bearings
Kimi Raikkonen will not immediately line up in the Sprint Cup, the main championship of NASCAR, where his former teammate rolls Juan-Pablo Montoya. It will first serve his apprenticeship in Truck Series, the third division, played with pick-ups. He then wants to climb in the Nationwide Series, the second division, to finally join the Sprint Cup.
Raikkonen will drive with his own team, ICE 1 Racing, which already calls his Citroen WRC DS3. He should make his Truck Series debut in the summer, when his schedule allows him since he has yet to play eight rallies in the WRC.
