Following the official reveal of the Concept A-Class in Shanghai, more hints regarding the upcoming compact-sized models under the Three-Pointed Star began coming out. Precisely, it appears that, for the beginning, four new variants are programmed for release under the future A-Klasse portfolio - a five-door hatch (followed shortly by the 3-door version), a four-door coupe, a shooting brake and a crossover. The second generation of the B-Klasse (codenamed W 246) will come this year at Frankfurt, this time featuring a more dynamical MPV shape. The new A-Klasse (W 176) will be released in the spring of 2012. The GLC (X 156), a crossover aimed at BMW X1 and Audi Q3, and the CLC (C 117), the series that will spawn a baby-CLS model and a niche tourer inspired by the soon-to-be-unveiled CLS Shooting Brake, will follow throughout the course of 2013. All the new compact cars to be assembled in Kecskemet, Hungary, will be developed on the revolutionary MFA platform and will be powered by highly-efficient diesel and petrol engines: low-displacement units provided by Renault and high-end Mercedes-Benz powerplants, such as the new M270 2.0 litres, turbo motor producing 210 hp.
